New pattern

Molly has a birthday party to go to on Sunday so I decided to try making something. I started on Friday. Did I mention my deadline problem? Anyway, here's an image of it in its compact form:
Here it is opened up.
Still not sure what it is? Here's a hint:
Yes, it's a fold-up tic-tac-toe board using the chalkboard fabric. I didn't like the way the roll-up chalkboard actually rolled. The chalkboard vinyl has no give, so it gets ripply when you roll it. This has fabric sewn in between the pieces of vinyl, so it can fold. The white stuff is elastic to hold the chalk. If I made another one, I'd do some changes. The way it folds, you can't have a full sized piece of chalk in the leftmost holder as pictured or the chalk would break when you fold the board. And I would make a way to make it look more finished. I'm not happy with my topstitching. But it's a prototype. Do you think this would sell at craft fairs? The million dollar question: how much would one pay for such a thing? It's for a girl who's turning six.

  1. This lucky child who is having a birthday is going to love this tic tac toe board. Heck, I'd like that. It looks perfect to me. I wouldn't change anything about it. I'm not sure how much I would charge, but I'm sure it would sell. Why not check prices on similar things on line, maybe ebay or etsy.

  2. Hey Cheryl,
I really missed hangin' with you crazy chicks this last week. Hopefully I'll see you guys this next week.
I LOVE this tic-tac-toe board! OK, what if you sew topstiching down between the rows, so that it folds over on itself instead of roll? Then maybe the chalk could fit paralell somewhere on those fold lines.... I totally think you could sell these at craft fairs....$10-$15? If you wanted to get crazy with it (I'm full of good ideas for other people's use of time!) you could add a "flap" of just plain chalkboard fabric for pictionary type games or just doodling.

  4. what a great idea! I have the chalkboard cloth all cut out for chalkboards for christmas gifts, but I think I might like this idea better.....
